Service 03 · Azure Migration

Off Azure. Same site, lower bill.

Microsoft's pricing is designed to make leaving feel hard. It isn't. We've translated dozens of Azure setups into modern cloud stacks — same functionality, often 80% lower bill, faster site, and no more egress charges.

Service-by-service mapping

What goes where.

Every Azure component has a clean equivalent on the modern stack. Most clients keep every feature — they just stop paying ten times what it's worth.

Three tiers

Pick by scope, not size.

Migrations vary in scope. The right tier depends on the surface area of your existing Azure setup, not the size of the business.

Basic exit
Quote-based
Single web app + SQL DB, < 5 GB data

App Service + Azure SQL + a sensible amount of blob storage. Most marketing sites and small brochureware apps land here. 2–3 weeks end-to-end.

Standard exit
Quote-based
Web app + SQL + storage + functions

Anything with serverless functions, multiple storage accounts, or non-trivial environment configuration. Most lead-gen and small SaaS apps. 3–5 weeks.

Complex exit
Quote-based
Multi-service, > 50 GB data, custom auth

Multiple App Service plans, large databases, custom auth (B2C / OIDC / SAML), Application Insights wired into the app. Bigger projects scoped after a discovery call.

How a migration runs

The migration timeline.

A typical Standard migration is 3–5 weeks end-to-end. Here's the phase-by-phase breakdown.

  1. Discovery (Week 0)

Full audit of your Azure setup: App Service tier, SQL pricing, storage size + access patterns, egress costs, environment variables, custom domains. Output is a fixed-price quote and a migration plan.

  2. Schema translation (Week 1)

T-SQL → PostgreSQL with all the gotchas: identity columns, datetime types, computed columns, stored procedures rewritten as Postgres functions or RLS policies.

  3. Data migration (Week 1–2)

One-off scripted migration with row-count verification, checksum sampling, and parallel writes for high-traffic tables.

  4. Cutover (Week 2–3)

Zero-downtime DNS flip. Old Azure stack stays live as fallback for 30 days. Traffic monitored hour-by-hour for the first week.

  5. Decommission (Day 30)

Once the new stack has run clean for a month, we help you spin down Azure resources cleanly. Most clients see the first month's hosting savings here.

Next step

See the number, then talk.

Plug your Azure tier, SQL plan, and bandwidth into the calculator. Most clients are stunned by the egress alone — and the calculator shows the migration paying for itself within 6–18 months.
